The T32 Cardiovascular Epidemiology Training Program is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tina Costacou as the new Co-Director as of January 01, 2025. Dr. Costacou, an Associate Professor and Director of the Doctoral Program, at the Department of Epidemiology, University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, brings a wealth of experience in cardiovascular, diabetes, and nutritional epidemiology.
We also celebrated the incredible contributions of Dr. Emma Barinas-Mitchell, who has served as a Co-Director since 2013. Dr. Barinas-Mitchell is renowned for her warmth, dedication, and exceptional mentorship, which have left an enduring legacy within the program.
Dr. Allison Kuipers, a former trainee of the T32 Program, became Co-Director in 2023. Her inspiring journey from trainee to leader is a testament to her remarkable dedication. While we will miss her, we are thrilled about her new role at Michigan State University and the impact she will undoubtedly continue to have in her field.
The event featured tributes from current and former trainees and a special acknowledgment from Dr. Trevor Orchard, the program’s former Director. We thank Drs. Barinas-Mitchell and Kuipers for their extraordinary service, and we look forward to the new chapter led by Dr. Tina Costacou.
