The Department of Epidemiology’s training program in CVD Epidemiology will have one open pre doctoral slot. This NIH/NHLBI-funded training program provides a stipend and funds to cover tuition for one year.
The program is designed to train students to be investigators skilled in a multidisciplinary approach to cardiovascular research. It is designed to train students in Cardiovascular Epidemiology based on a pathophysiological understanding and thereby help develop better prevention strategies. Our philosophy is to provide a core foundation of didactic and applied training in Cardiovascular Epidemiology with strong methodological and quantitative skills, customized to the experience and background of each trainee. The Training Program comprises three research cores: 1) subclinical atherosclerosis, 2) biostatistics and epidemiological methods, and 3) cardiology. Building on more than a decade of success, we proposed to achieve our goal by enhancing our accomplished existing training program and by expanding to include the new key initiatives of Big Data including but not limited to omics, geospatial data, electronic health data, mobile Health (mHealth). In doing so, we will position our trainees as independent cardiovascular epidemiologists in multidisciplinary research settings competent in traditional and novel epidemiological methods in CVD.
