Dr. Kozai used data collected from two parallel prospective pregnancy cohorts to compare the 24-hour movement behaviors of physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep. The MoM Health study was conducted entirely prior to the COVID pandemic, while the Pregnancy 24/7 study was conducted during two pandemic-affected years. This study found that pandemic-era pregnant people were less active and more sedentary than their pre-pandemic counterparts, but did not experience the typical drop in sleep duration in the third trimester. Furthermore, this article analyzed patterns across time in the COVID-era group. It was determined that despite a return toward pre-pandemic societal norms over the two pandemic years, pregnant people did not return to a more active lifestyle.
